CRANBORNE VIEW
Planning permission was granted in 2020 for extensions and a loft conversion to an existing Victorian cottage located just outside the New Forest National Park. The works also included refurbishing and reconfiguring the existing house to create a more functional layout. The proposals introduced a large single-storey extension to accommodate an open-plan kitchen, dining, and family area with glazed doors opening onto the garden, as well as a smaller first-floor rear extension to improve the upper-floor arrangement and provide access to the newly converted loft space.
The project completed on site in 2021.

Design Intent
The brief called for a contemporary extension that would form a deliberate contrast with the historic character of the existing building. Due to the unusual shape of the site, an angular extension was developed. The design enhances and frames the outlook over Cranborne Chase, making the most of the setting. The existing house remains discreet within the landscape and is barely visible from surrounding viewpoints, including the approach to the front of the property.
The clients wanted the structure to be a visible feature, so a steel frame was incorporated to add visual interest within the space. The new external walls are constructed using timber framing with high levels of insulation.
